Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs) play an essential administrative role within healthcare settings. They are often the initial point of contact for patients and their families and serve as the primary source of clerical support for medical staff.

HUCs typically complete training programs that span approximately six months, with the potential for certification following completion. Depending on the specific responsibilities of the position, you have the flexibility to choose between candidates with prior experience or recent graduates eager to apply their skills. It’s worth noting that many HUCs eventually progress into registered nursing roles. Therefore, you should consider whether you are seeking a candidate for a temporary position or someone with the potential to evolve into a valuable member of the medical team.

When interviewing candidates for this role, focus on questions that assess their efficiency and familiarity with clerical procedures, particularly those relevant to a medical setting, such as medical terminology.   • Reflect on a time when you encountered a conflict with a colleague within your team. How did you approach and resolve this conflict?
  • Describe an instance when you experienced a strong sense of fulfillment in the course of your work. What contributed to this feeling of accomplishment?
