Social Media Specialist Interview Questions:

The job requirements for a social media specialist include more than knowing your company’s social media passwords. This individual should have a thorough understanding of how each social media platform functions in order to optimize content for all of those platforms and reach large metrics for engagement with this content. Moreover, their responsibilities also include participating in relevant conversations on behalf of your company and “soft selling” your products and services by assisting current and prospective clients via social media channels.

Social media does not operate in a vacuum, and a competent social media specialist will be able to collaborate effectively and have strong working relationships with all their teammates. Content writers, graphic designers, and search marketers are among some of these teammates. Additionally, the person you hire should be well-versed in understanding how SEO, content (blogs, email, video, etc.) and social media interact to produce effective digital marketing campaigns. They should also be metric-driven and dedicated to demonstrating statistical pragmatic data. 

Because social media gaffes can live on in screenshots indefinitely, you’ll need to recruit someone with good social media skills and who has a strong assessment of specific situations. Therefore, you could ask questions such as “How would you deal with a furious unsatisfied customer?” can be a good question to pose for you to better understand their problem-solving skills. You could utilize these interview questions to evaluate your candidate’s previous work experience with managing social media accounts for brands and companies and their personality features and skills to check if they fit the company’s culture. A candidate who is consistent with their job responsibilities with a funny personality and a passion to help others would be an asset and ideal for this position.

  • How do you think social media and content marketing are interrelated?
  • The functionality and usage of social media is continually changing. How do you keep up with this constant transformation?
  • What is the connection between social media and brand building and maintaining?
  • What social media platforms do you prefer, and what are the benefits and drawbacks of each?
  • On your own time, what additional social media outlets do you use?
  • What are your recommendations for growing a social following?
  • Describe your current company’s brand voice
  • Explain to us the visual identity of the current company you work for.
  • For different tasks such as scheduling, content curation, project management, social listening, what tools do you prefer to utilize?
  • When it comes to customer service, how have you employed social media?
  • What exactly is the link between social media and sales?
  • Explain to us how you would present your work’s outcomes.
  • What would you do to encourage creating user-generated content?
  • What is the best way to combine social media with offline events?
  • Describe a situation when you used social media to interact with an unsatisfied  customer.
  • What would you do if someone made a nasty comment about your company and brand on social media?
  • What do you think of our current social media presence? What could we do better?
