Social Media Analyst Interview Questions

An analyst of social media measures the effectiveness of social media campaigns and activities. In order to increase the visibility of a brand online, they develop marketing strategies. Typically, candidates for this position possess a marketing degree and/or relevant certifications in digital technologies. A working knowledge of Google Analytics and social media management tools such as Buffer and Hootsuite is also required. Look for candidates who have a solid understanding of online marketing trends and audience preferences. A proactive approach should be taken by your potential hires. In addition to reporting on metrics, they should identify how your social media strategy can be improved. Learn how candidates stay up to date on digital technology developments and how they apply this knowledge at work during your interviews. Because social media is a rapidly changing field, it is essential for Social Media Analysts to stay current with new tools and techniques.

Questions related to operations and situations

  • To gain a better understanding of our social media strategy, what metrics would you look at if you were hired?
  • A new product is being launched. Would you advertise the product launch on any of the following networks? Which of the following do you think would be the least effective? Why?
  • Are you able to A/B test the timing of our social media posts?
  • How would you measure the success of a live broadcast of an event if we decided to do so?
  • Is there a metric that would indicate that a social media campaign has failed?

  • How do you monitor your metrics on a daily basis? How do you compile your reports?
  • How do you schedule your posts? What tools do you use?
  • What is the best way to determine the demographics of your Facebook followers? If you were given this data, what would you do with it?
  • For ephemeral content, such as Snapchat or Instagram Stories, how do you measure user engagement (e.g. views, clicks, or shares)?
  • What are some ways in which SEO can increase web traffic? Describe some effective SEO practices for web content.
  • I would like to know what keyword research tools you use and how you implement their findings.

  • Describe the complete process of running a social media campaign. Can you describe the purpose of the campaign, the channels you used, and the results you achieved?
  • When explaining social media metrics to executives who are not technically oriented, what challenges have you encountered? What were your strategies for overcoming these challenges?
  • What are your methods of finding out about new tools and trends in your field?
  • To network with industry professionals, have you joined any Facebook or LinkedIn groups?
  • Do you follow any social media experts? (For example, on Twitter)
  • When proposing a new social media strategy, have you ever encountered objections or doubts? What action did you take if so?
  • I would like to know about the most successful social media campaign you have ever seen. How did it achieve such success?
