Analytics Managers are responsible for developing strategies and employing tools to assist organizations in converting raw data into valuable business insights. This data can encompass external market metrics in the form of benchmark reports, as well as internal performance data.

As the job title implies, candidates for this position should possess strong analytical abilities. They should be adept at drawing logical conclusions from substantial datasets. Candidates should also possess practical experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau and SAS. If relevant, it’s advisable to include an Excel assessment in your hiring process to evaluate candidates’ proficiency with spreadsheets and advanced formulas.

Candidates may come from diverse academic backgrounds, including Computer Science, Statistics, or Economics. The following questions will assist you in assessing how candidates handle and report data discrepancies. If the role entails overseeing a team of Data Analysts, consider evaluating your potential hires’ leadership capabilities and compatibility with the organizational culture.

  • When you’re conveying performance metrics, how do you ensure that your audience comprehends technical terminology?
  • How do you keep yourself informed about current trends in your industry?
  • Can you share the most demanding database problem you’ve encountered to date, and how did you manage it?
  • Describe an instance where your discoveries contributed to a company’s recognition of areas needing improvement or cost reduction.
