Medical Assistant Interview Questions:

The demand for medical assistants is significant. You’ll definitely get a lot of applications for this position, and most of them will have completed accredited medical assistant training. While working as a medical assistant without certification is allowed, certain businesses will require certification for procedures such as blood drawing. For this position, previous hands-on medical assistant experience is strongly desirable.

A lot of primary health care centers commonly hire these candidates. Medical assistants often perform medical procedures under the supervision of a physician in rural or inner-city clinics. Their job is usually to support the physician with the daily tasks. For example, scheduling appointments, interacting with pharmacists, managing medical supplies, and providing direct patient care to both the patients and families.

Therefore, the candidate who will be hired should have a variety of skills such as being organized, efficient, detail-oriented and empathetic. While it is important to have actual experience as a medical assistant, it is equally important to check if they came prepared to the interview and conducted their research regarding your facility and thus, include reasons in their answer to why they are the most qualified to help patients in your community.

• Describe the different medical procedures that you have helped perform?
• How do you help doctors keep track of medical equipment and supplies?
• If you are put in a situation where a pharmacist contacts you to request a medication refill. What kind of information should you inquire about?
• Describe your phlebotomy experience.
• Have you ever conducted an ECG test?
• What is the procedure for setting up an IV fluid line?
• How have you safeguarded the privacy and rights of patients?
• Describe a situation when you successfully handled a disagreement with a tough patient.
• How would you react if a patient asked you a question but you did not know the answer?
• How well-versed are you with our facility and the community that we serve?
