Logistics managers are in charge of ensuring that products move smoothly from order to storage to transportation and distribution. Furthermore, in order to ensure sustainability and consumer happiness, they control the entire supply chain cycle. 

Typically, your candidates have an academic background in logistics or business administration with an applicable chain management certification. Furthermore, it is critical that they are experienced with warehouse management and are able to effectively coordinate with retailers, manufacturers, and raw material suppliers.

You can utilize these questions to find out how your applicants manage projects from start to finish and how they handle tight deadlines. You should also keep an eye out for candidates who have worked in a cost-cutting environment by employing logistical approaches that might offer value to your business. Also, if the Logistics Manager’s responsibility includes supervising a team, then you should ask questions to evaluate your candidates’ leadership skills including their team management skills.

Operational and Situational questions:

  • What are your primary day-to-day activities?
  • On a quarterly and annual basis, what targets would you set, if you were to be hired? What method would you employ to keep track of their progress?
  • How knowledgeable are you in regards to automated warehouse systems?
  • How do you keep yourself updated in regards to stock levels?
  • Do you know what ISO standards and health regulations are?
  • How do you calculate the costs of transportation?
  • Have you utilized any project management software?
  • How do you go about doing a blind count?
  • Describe how you organize and coordinate order shipping.
  • What method do you use to assign shifts to your team members?
  • How would you react if a supplier advised you that there would be a major delay in their delivery?
  • How do you assess the performance of your team?
  • A manufacturer with whom you’ve been working for years informs you of a price increase. So, what exactly do you do?

Behavioural questions:

  • Have you ever had to let someone go? Why? How did you deal with it?
  • Tell us about a time when you were able to successfully negotiate a price reduction.
  • What is your area of expertise, and how do you keep yourself updated on logistics management trends? Do you intend to pursue a relevant certification?
  • Have you ever had to deal with a complaint from a customer?
  • Describe a time when you were working on a difficult project. What role did you have and how were you able to keep the spirit of your team high and motivated?
