Assessor Interview Questions:
Assessors, also referred to as Real Estate Appraisers, are responsible for determining the value of real property or land, typically before it is sold, mortgaged, taxed, or insured.
In most jurisdictions, an assessor license or relevant certification is mandatory for this position. It’s imperative to ensure candidates meet these qualifications before scheduling interviews. Familiarity with commercial real estate software, such as ARGUS and LoopNet, is also preferred.
During interviews, assess candidates’ knowledge of industry legislation and tax regulations to gauge their ability to stay current. This role demands a deep understanding of construction, materials, and building techniques, making candidates with relevant work experience highly desirable.
Candidates with strong written communication skills are preferred, as they will be required to prepare comprehensive reports on property appraisals. Additionally, clarify the amount of time spent outside the office, especially if travel is involved, and assess candidates’ availability accordingly.
